Anatomy of an Epidemic

June 11th, 2010

Everyone who is dealing with mental illness, care taker or a patient, should read Robert Whitaker‘s new book Anatomy of An Epidemic.

Magic Bullets, Psychiatric Drugs, and the Astonishing Rise of Mental Illness in America

Are the drugs my daughter takes causing as much, if not more harm, than good?

He complies evidence that has been kept from the public that will surprise and alarm every reader.

I am in the middle of reading it and I am chomping at the bit to tear the pharmaceutical companies and their minions, the mental healthcare doctors in our country, apart.

Same boat as you, cannot put it down. It’s great. Got his Mad At America at the same time. Can’t wait to tart that one either.

I heard of this book and tried to get it at the library but they didn’t have it. I am almost afraid to read it because I know it will anger me and confuse me even more than I already am!

Have you read “Crazy: A Father’s Search Through America’s Mental Health Madness” by Pete Early? I can’t put it down! Its also very disturbing, its about the criminalization and treatment of the mentally ill in our justice/healthcare system.

Pete Early set his son up to be held for inpatient care—I’d read Whitaker’s book first.

I’ve linked to a blog radio interview of Robert Whitaker that was on today via the MindFreedom and David Oaks. It’s a good start to hear Bob talk about the content of the book, if interested.

Thank you. I will take time out from reading and listen to it. The book makes me more fired-up to fight the system and so sad for my daughter whose life was forever damaged by the drugs we thought would help her.
